Sometimes all that shines isn't exactly what we think it is...Sometimes the shine we see is just a distraction. A distraction so that we don't see what is really good on. A call for attention. Good or bad, as long as the attention is happening then that's all that matters right? For some people that's good, for others not so much. Sometimes even though we see the shinning, we aren't distracted by it. We let it happen, we let what's going on behind that shine slip through because we car about the person or the situation so much. Until one day, their behavior or their need for attention becomes too much and we decide that we've had enough, they've beat us and they've now lost us because finally, even though we fought for it, they've become too much for us to handle. Too much time, energy, patient and thoughtfulness that we just simply no longer have and we finally admit that they aren't the gold that we gave them the benefit of the doubt to be. Nesbitt Pierce said a very simple, yet very true and accurate quote:
"Shiny as shit, but is it gold? Nah."
I don't think anyone could have more accurately stated that. Yes, it's so shiny you can have a problem concentrating on anything else but at the same time, if you concentrate hard enough it isn't gold, it isn't anything but a mask. A mask that is holding back the true person from being seen.
Next time you meet someone in your life, give them the benefit of the doubt, let yourself believe that they are a good person that they have good intentions just keep a weary eye and remember once they start to look super special, and perfect or super shiny double check to make sure they're not over-shinning themselves.
